I really enjoyed the Thai cooking class that was
held last night. Deb has great energy, she's full of useful cooking
tips, and she's funny! The class definitely exceeded my expectations.
And it's held in a great historic building overlooking the Arroyo
and the Colorado Street Bridge.
Deb and Robin start by walking you
through several recipes (last night there were five), as they describe
techniques and where to find ingredients. We were encouraged to
interrupt at any time and ask questions. They serve wine throughout
the demonstration (although, it wasn't the best). After the cooking,
they set up a buffet and let us try the delicious food. It was exceptional.
Even better, Deb and Robin join you at the tables, so you can have
a more one-on-one conversation with them. We discovered all of the
best local places to buy produce and meats.
What a wonderful way to spend a weeknight.
I intend to sign up for the next Thursday class.

Took a cooking class here on Saturday. Featured food
was from France. They began with appetizers and wine. Then the class
began. I have enjoyed cooking for over 40 years and have taken many
cooking classes. This one, by far, was the best and now I'll tell
you why: Non-pretentious. Owners/chefs were approachable, knowledgeable,
friendly, inclusive and interactive. They welcomed questions from
the floor. They used common ingredients to create an uncommon flavor.
I am not a pork roast person, yet this was the best pork roast I
have ever tasted and I would prepare it at home. Our "tasting"
was a full course dinner with wine at every course. The portions
were more than generous. Seriously, if I was to spend the equivalent
at a fine restaurant, I wouldn't have had nearly as much fun as
I did here and I learned a lot in the process. Which just goes to
show you, you can teach an old dog new tricks...even if they've
been cooking for over 40 years and trying new things all the time.
I would definitely return the to school for more classes if I lived
in the area!

What a treat! My friend and I took the Cooking Basics
2: Dinner class today. Due to the size of the class, we watched
and listened to Deb, the owner, demonstrate how to cook the menu
she had planned. Today, it was game hens, mashed potatoes, a shrimp
& raspberry salad and pineapple parfait. (It appears that menu
changes with the season, Deb's interests and customer input.) You
receive the recipes in a handout, so you can take notes. A nice
touch was being given clipboards for note taking. As Deb walked
us through the recipes, she provided very useful tips not just for
preparing the dishes but cooking overall. It's great for a novice
cook like me. Loved her humor as well.
The real treat was having
Deb sit with us while we enjoyed the meal. What a great opportunity
to get more cooking tips, restaurant and store recommendations and
just hear her cooking philosophy. By the way, the meal was delicious!
What I liked most about
this cooking school was that it was designed for success. Deb teaches
skills. As she explained, if she shows how you poach a salmon, you
now know how to poach any fish. I first thought that a hands-on
class was a better way to learn, but with the way Deb teaches, it's
better to watch. You don't want to miss anything. She has a lot
to teach!
The classes are a great
activity to do with friends as well as to give as a gift. In our
group, there was a newlywed couple who received it as a wedding
gift.

We went to Old Town Cooking School on a Sunday afternoon
for a quick "skills class" and had a great time. The set
up is nothing like Le Cordon Bleu but neither is the price! We went
on a Groupon, but even without the classes (complete with dinner)
are usually between 50 and 70 bucks! The teaching is informal, informational,
and intended for real people in real kitchens. This is not the fanciest
class you will ever take, but it's a fun time for a good price.
Plus the view at their new place on Arroyo is great!.

Went
to their French Cooking class Thursday.
The cooks were so down to earth.
My wife and I felt immediately welcomed.
The Arroyo Clubhouse is a beautiful location
The receipes were for home cooking not stuffy or hard to do.
Questions were encouraged and answered.
There were many useful cooking and shopping tips.
My wife and I loved the company, food and drink.

I can't make up my mind - is this highly instructive
class with great food at the end? Or is it a Gourmet Meal preceded
by an entertaining floor show? Look at it this way - just for the
MEAL the price is a great deal - and a very great ...
